Communities are at the heart of New Social. Mostly small and medium sized. Places where people feel safe, and can breathe. Or places where people can come together and make things happen. People coming together online, through websites or servers. Joining groups or chat rooms. Posting to custom feeds where the community creates the algorithm, not the social media barons. And people and organisations who come together offline, finding new, safe ways to move online.
Newsmast, our pilot Fediverse initiative, has community building at its heart, through the creation of carefully curated public-interest feeds. Now we’re working to support all types of communities, by building tools and technology, curating content, helping with moderation and promoting new governance models.
Wins in New Social aren’t all about onboarding lots of new users. They can also be nurturing a community of 100s or 1000’s, bringing people together for the greater good over many, many years.
